Knit night, a competition and knits for men

Just a quick reminder that this coming Wednesday, 16th January, knit night will take place at 42 Market Place on floor 1 – there have been a lot of changes happening at 42 Market Place lately and you can read more here.

We have also been sent an email about a competition:
I hope you are well and not too cold! I just wanted to let you know that we launched our first project competition today – with a chance to win £100 to spend at www.loveknitting.com! All you have to do is send in a photo of a project – it’s got to be worth a go, hasn’t it?

The details are on our blog, the link is below. If you have the time and the inclination, it would be absolutely wonderful if you could share this with your group, but absolutely no worries if not.

And finally, can you see the men in your life wearing these?

Merry Christmas to you all!

It’s the last knit night of the year this Wednesday 19 December, come along and join us from 6.30-9pm at 42 Market Place for a seasonal knit (in fact it may be a “will this christmas knit get finished on time…”)

Hope you can make it. If you can’t have a fabulous yuletide and stay warm.

Secondly, there is a chance to win tickets to see The Fifth Elephant in January, over on the jelly website – the lucky winner will be announced on Christmas Eve, so add your comments now.

Lastly, a date for your diary: Tuesday 29 January 2013 6.30pm Global Cafe, London Street, Reading

Little Stitch has set up and created an event here (it’s a facebook link)

Basically it is to come and join a free ‘stitch in’ and make your own piece of the jigsaw for the Craftivist Collective and Save the Children I’m a Piece project. You can find lots of information about the project here http://imapiece.craftivist-collective.com/ and following the hashtag #imapiece

What do you need to bring? Yourself, an appetite for some crafty activism, any extra craft supplies you would like to make your piece your own (though don’t worry if you don’t have any to hand – embroidery floss, needles and jigsaw pieces will be available for you to use.) Tasty refreshments will be available for purchase in the Global Cafe.

We hope you can join us

Christmas kisses to all
x

The Big Knit is back!

From the innocent people:
Knitting. Now there’s a grown up and sophisticated activity. It’s up there with playing bridge and lighting scented candles before you get in the bath. And if knitting’s your thing, we’d love your help for the Big Knit 2012. This year, as we have for the past nine years, we’ll be putting woolly hats on our smoothies and giving 25p per bottle sold to Age UK, to help keep older people warm and healthy this winter. Since we started we’ve raised over £1 million, so if you’ve ever knitted a hat for us or bought one of the smoothies that was wearing one, thank you very much. And if you’re up for knitting some hats this year, head to the website to find out more.

Shall we do a group Big Knit together?

Knit night and a trunk show

This post is going to be long and full of information so apologies in advance if confusing but there is so much to say.
Firstly, knit night this week (Weds 20 June) will be at the jelly Handmade in The Oracle space from 6-7.45pm.

It’s a beautiful light and airy space and for the past week jelly has been there daily from 11.30-2.30 hosting a drop in area. We think you’ll love it, there is no electric though so please bring your own refreshments along. To find the space, enter The Oracle up the escalators by Boots and then look behind you on the mezzanine and we’ll be there.

Secondly, this Saturday 23 June we will be welcoming Skein Queen to the Handmade space from 11.30-2.30 for a trunk show. A trunk show is a special show where you get to meet the maker and in this instance fondle the yarn. We are thrilled that Skein Queen will be with us, as her work is so very beautiful and it’s hard to get hold of it in her home town. Come along and join us on Saturday, 11.30 onwards, jelly Handmade at The Oracle.
